Iphoto overwrites the name of location I assigned

Hi

I have scanned older pictures and assigned the name of the places, for example "Serfaus" in Austria or "San Jordi" in Spain, etc. These places showed up in the pop up list and I clicked on it and it seemed that Iphoto has accepted them. But when close the picture and reopen Iphoto has overwriten the place in something totally different like San Francisco or even fantasy names "Dfeut", Swerb or so. Very strange!!! Anybody has the same problem. It seems to work fine for US, but not in Europe.

waht version of iPhoto and of the OS?

Hi LarryHN

I use Iphoto 11 (9.4.2) and OS X 10.8.2.

I forgot to mention that the Stickers on the map are on the right place, it is just the name of the place who changes suddenly, sometimes even in the US, Las Vegas get Nappa Valley for example.

In the iPhoto preferences is look up places set to automatically? - it should be

You scanned these photos - when you say you assigned place names how did you do this? Did you put in an Alpha name or Lat/Long coordinates? have you tried assigning the place using iPhoto?

Alpha Name in Iphoto and actually it happens not only to scanned but also imported pictures.

There might also be translation issues. I have assigned Serfaus in Austria to a picture (btw via the info tag) and on the map view under countries Iphoto assigns Australia instead of Austria (in French Australie instead of Autriche). The tag on the map is on the right place, in Austria and not Australia.

An I forgot to mention that when I am doing changes to locations in Iphotos the quite often (every 5 minutes or so) the Iphoto stops working/responding and I have to force closing of the programm and of course loose then the unsaved data. It is quite a bit frustrating.

As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

After a lot of crashes and somme events that were corrupted I finally rebuild/repaired the galerie. It seems that everything works fine now. Thanks everybody for your suggestions.
