Missing RAM?

My computer seems to not be recognizing one pair of DIMMs I have installed. I used to have 5gb of RAM now there is only 3 showing in the system report.


two slots that have the DIMMs in are now showing as empty.


Can memory fail like that?

Yes, memory does fail exactly like that, and that is the definition of failed memory. No further debugging is needed, that stuff has died.


If it is aftermarket RAM that still has the vendors stickers on it, some vendors provide a lifetime replacement warranty.

It is not essentail, if the memory has the same speeds then it should be alright, best to replace RAM in 2's with a Mac Pro. If in doubt though replace all of them, its not good to have two different speeds of RAM in a machine.


Depends on how memory dependant your applications are, if you use a lot of memeory best to replace all, if not then dont worry,
