iPhoto book

Do you need to resize large file photos eg 3mb before using in photo book or does iPhoto do this for you when uploading? Have had trouble uploading and am wondering if it is the file size.

iMac, iOS 5

Have gone trough whole assembly and upload process and right at the finish it comes back with error message saying upload failed please retry.
