Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Trash Emptying takes too long

I'm frustrated that the only option to empty the trash in Snow Leopard seems to be 'Empty Securely' and I don't need or want this. Before I upgraded from Leopard 10.5.8 I could just empty without the secure empty option.

I want to change the emptying method but I can't find any reference to it in Preferences. Can anyone please tell me if it can be done and how?
