Yesterday I bought my Apple TV 3rd generation. What a fantastic device! Only one thing that does not work properly. When I stream music from my pc to Apple TV, only 1 or maximum 2 songs are played, but then the music stops. The circle that shows that you'll have to wait keeps turning and turning. When I quit playing the music, everything else works perfect (radio, youtube, et cetera, even browsing photos via the same iTunes!).

When I restart iTunes on my pc, I can play 1 or two songs before the playing stops.

Has anyone a idea what goes wrong?

I checked that everything has the latest softwareversion.

Apple TV, Windows Vista

Does the last song it plays happen to be five minutes or more? Mine will play all day until it gets a longer song, then I have to hit play again to get it going. It gets hung up after playing longer songs. Strange. Can't seem to get an answer in here.

No, I do not have that problem. The problem I mentioned, is solved by opening some network-ports in my Firewall and rebooting my modem/router. Maybe you should try that!

    TCP-port 3689 and UDP-port 5353.

I will certainly try it. Thanks!

I'm pretty confident that the latest version of sotware is the problem. I've been using mine fore a long time with no problems. Yesterday I updated both itunes on my imac and the apple tv device. I've had the same problem since. You'd think Apple would know that they pushed a bug and would fix it very quickly?

    I agree with Tom...

I never had this problem until a few days ago.

iTunes 11 and the ATV update have screwed my listening pleasure.

I expect it will be the new year before its fixed.

I have none of these problems. Since I reset my router and added the TCP/UDP ports in my firewall, all problems were solved. Sorry guys!

I have the same issue, since updating to ITunes 11 and the latest version of Apple TV, videos stop at 20 mins and go back to the main menu. The only way to start is to reset iTunes!! What have apple done!! Not had any issue until these updates in 2 years!!

I have the same issue. I have a mac based network (Mac Mini and ATV2) and ever since the latest iTunes and Apple TV update, it takes longer for homesharing to upload and I get frequent streaming interruptions during music play. Everything else (YouTube, Internet Radio, etc)  works fine.

Go to your energy saving section of system preferences and adjust them so your MAC doesn't sleep. Slide all the way to the right and check the unchecked box below the bar. This will fix the problem.  Apple needs to address a better solution going forward

I have had this problem - music stops streaming on 1st or 2nd song then ATV says "not connected to network" when it is.  I had installed a new router so I went back to the old router and did not have the problem so focussed on the new router.  It is a Telstra Netgear CG3100D.

I went into the WiFi Multimedia section and did the following:

    VMM set to OFF

No Acknowledgement - set to OFF

Power Save Support - Set to OFF

Rebooted the router and the ATV and Voila - it worked!!!

Seems may have been an incompatibility between Apple and non Apple Multi Media

Let me know if you want to check any other settings - Ive tried them all

Thanks for the info about adding ports! After tons of wasted hours and reseach it did the trick.  Thank you so much for sharing!
