For itunes 10.7 it is saying that my mac need version OS X needs to be version 10.8.6 - how do i get this? There are no current software updates and i cant use iTunes for my new iphone 5

I think you meant 10.6.8, not 10.8.6 🙂
It requires an upgrade, instead of a free update.
