Is there a portable charger that will charge or maintain charge on Ipad2?

None of my portable chargers (so far) have been able to charge my Ipad. I have an Ipad 2. I've read other topics on this in various places on this site and apparently it is a problem?

This is important to me because I plan to use aviation software (with the Bad Elf Gps) on my Ipad and I really don't want to have my battery go dead in the middle of a long trip.

someone suggested Xtreme Mac devices. I looked on their site and they CLAIM to work with Ipad 2, but if the charging system in a car or small plane isn't enough voltage - will this work?

thanks,

Thank you. I'm off to see if I can find one. Not sure I've ever heard of Zagg, but I'll look. I have a Tekkon that will charge my Android Tablet, but unfortunately my Foreflight moving map software doesn't work on Android.

At least I know there is SOMETHING out there.

Thank you.

BTW - I grew up around a bunch of skydivers. In the OLD days before the para-commanders. The ones that if you landed wrong - you broke something. :-). no buddy-jumps - just training, static lines, and prayer................

I take it you are looking for a car type charger. For these as well as any other charger for the iPad you should be looking for at least a 2 amp, 10 watt USB type charger. Many are still only 1 amp which will not work with an iPad. I use Scosche reVolt c2 dual 10 watt car charger for both my iPhone and iPad. http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/2318 These work between with 10-16 volt DC in, there are some available that support up to 24 volt in if you require it. They also have 10watt 110 volt chargers with dual ports as well.

I think that answered my question. I had wondered if voltage was the issue. My plane is 14volts. my car - is 12, but either one of them won't charge my ipad or android (lenovo A1). This does answer the question.

I am fairly certain the ones I have are not over 2 amps. I don't know how to tell. I"ll have to ask my son or my brother, but this should solve the problem.

I looked up the zagg also and that, along with xtrememac products all seem to be the 2.1 amps you suggested were needed.

I plan to buy one of something. I don't know where the zagg site is which will offer them at 50% off. I'm guessing at the site itself. I signed up for emails so I would guess they'd notify me of a sale.

thanks to everyone.

The Zagg chargers are a battery based solution which could charge USB charging devices with no other power source once charged. These can be handy. But if all you want is an adapter these may be over kill. Most chargers have their power ratings stamp somewhere on them although you'll probably need a magnifying glass to read it. If these are older 1 amp 5 watt chargers they will not charge iPads or will charge them very slowly if at all. For the most part the 2 amp 10 watt chargers came out after the iPad was released do to it's higher requirements most other USB based charging devices did not need.

The higher rated charges will charge both an iPad and iPhone with no issues. The lower rated chargers will only charge the iPhone and lower rated devices.
