Apple TV not recognizing ID/PW

I am trying to add a new account to my Apple TV so I can use Home Sharing on a different computer. I type in my apple ID and password and get a message that either the ID or PW is incorrect. I have verified that BOTH are correct by logging into my iTunes accounts. Has this ever happened to anyone?
