Hi,
I have a 1TB WD external hard drive. When I first purchased it I formatted it to the Apple software. I now have have need to have to transferr large amounts of pictures etc from my MacBook to a PC. The PC does not recognise the HD.
Can anyone please tell me how I dual format?

Mac as well as Windows PC can recognize FAT(32) format.
Disk Utility can handle FAT format.

Look into using exFAT format http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT
Regular FAT has some disadvantages. FAT32 has file size limits of 4GB. Mac repair utilties cannot repair FAT drives. Some applications and actions such as file copying can occasionally run into issues with FAT drives.
You are right. I didn't know that Disk Utility can handle exFAT.

MacDrive for Windows is excellent HFS driver.
Paragon NTFS is best in a Mac driver for NTFS and support for PC and external drives is only $19.
They are working on exFAT for Mac, and they would not do so if the Apple support was good and wasn't needed.
