Regarding connecting macbook to TV through HDMI

Hi,

I have a macbook 13" and currently am trying to connect it with TV through HDMI. The video displays well on TV screen, but the sound still comes out from my laptop. Can anyone tell me how to figure this problem out? I also tried to find and set up TV output in System Preferences, but it does not show up in Sound. I am wondering if my macbook does not support audio.

Thank you for your help in advance.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Only the model 7,1 Mid 2010 MacBook supports sound out of the Mini DisplayPort.

If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.
