How do I transfer my iTunes library onto my new computer?

This seems like it should be so simple but it is anything but! I was able to recover almost all of my songs, but still about 300 missing from my new library for some reason! And none of my playlists copied to the new computer...just trying to make it the same on the new one. Someone told me about senuti, that works better but then you have to pay a lot of money for it!

Every time I try to sync my i Pod to the new computer iTunes warns me that the library is going to overwrite the iPod - but I want it to do just the opposite.

Please help! I am so very frustrated with this contraption and I can't believe apple doesnt have an easy solution to this...ugh

If you still have access to your iTunes Library on your Old Computer...

From your OLD computer...

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
