Confused on uploading to Mountain Lion

If I have a macbook pro with OS X 10.5.8 can I update to mountain lion or do I need to update to snow leopard first? I'm not sure if I have leopard now or not.

I bought the computer in 2009 so I believe it is recent enough.

I have an iphone, ipod touch and ipad and would really like to connect all of these to make school easier and everything just more cohesive.

Please advise on the necessary steps to get mountain lion, if possible. The more detail the better.

Thanks for you help.

You have to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard to be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade. Finally, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version.

Open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. See if your programs are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
