MacBook air is not connecting with my Thunderbolt monitor...should be easy fix but i cannot figure out

I have been using my MacBook Air with Thunderbolt monitor for a few months with no problems... Now I connected my laptop to my monitor and I am not getting a connection. Please help

Thunderbolt Display (27-inch), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
