Trash not Supported

When I want to remove a project either through the delete button or control clicking it, I get the message "This operation will not be undoable because the trash isn't supported. Continue anyway?" I duplicate my work after each session and want to get rid of the earlier duplication. What does it mean that the trash isn't supported? How do I get my trash supported?
