macbook pro 3 beep at boot

My macbook pro beeps three times immediately over a blank screen at boot. I've tried: option, command, P, R several times.

What could it be?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Usually means bad RAM.
