Can I put RAM from 2006 1.1 MacPro in new MacPro?

This may be a pretty dumb question, but I have a 2006 MacPro 1.1 2 x 2 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon and am upgrading to the new 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. I have 12 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM in my old machine. Is it possible to run the new MacPro with that RAM? I know it comes with DDR3 ECC SDRAM in it, but was wanting to save a little cash if possible.

I'm guessing it's most likely not, but I thought I would come here and ask.

Many Thanks,

PM

a) when you check the prices of new modules, compared to the prices of old modules, it will make you smile.

b)

there are only 4 slots instead of 8, which is kind of a bummer!

That is hardly a bummer when you can install up to 48GB (with some limitations), and you don't have to mortgage your house to do it.

As The hatter suggests, here are some Mac-Centric vendors with good support:
