Q: 6 months after installing Apple TV my airport connection to iTunes does not work.  Ideas?

What are suggested trouble shooting procedures?

I just want to disconnect the Apple TV - it's no longer worth it.  What are the steps...

    Hi Jeff,

I need to ask you to rephrase it a bit as I'm not sure about your setup and what exactly is not working.

I have Apple TV, iTunes running through a Russ Sound house audio distribution system. Something is not working in either the Apple TV or the Airport is not working.  Not the most technology sophisticated person so simple is better.  If I remove the Apple TV from the system I can isolate the problem (I hope)  How can I disconnect Apple TV and return to a system driven by iTunes and Airport...

    Hi Jeff,

Apple TV and iTunes on your computer or (iPod, iPad, iPhone)  need to be on the same LAN - local network either WiFi or cabled - cabled better / faster.

Your Apple TV can be connected  to the sound system via HDMI or optical as those are the only two ports it has to output audi/video.

If you need just audio optical is better if you have such in port on your sound system.

If not HDMI will do. Last option is to use adapters from optical or hdmi to whatever your sound system accepts.

You will need to work out on your sound system how to play sound from either hdmi aor optical input.

This how it should work in ideal world.

Now, what are you running your iTunes on and which generation of Apple TV is it?

I am on version 10.7 of iTunes.  The Apple TV is 3 years old - I did not check the version.  I just want to disconnect the Apple TV from the system and use Airport with iTunes and teh home audio system  In checking teh Airport last night I see that the output audio (red & white cabkes) are not inserted into the Russound system.  Should they be?

Apple TV is running cable to teh Russound.

    Jeff,

If you want to remove Apple TV and connect your iTunes to play to the Airport Express you can do it.

You do need to connect cables between Airport E and your sound system.

Also make sure that your computer with iTunes is talking to the Airport E on the newtork. Either Eth (cabled) or WiFi.
