My iPod classic that has served me well for years froze 4 hours ago. I'd plugged it in to my car and it suddenly froze without any warning. Initially I thought it was because of teh cold, but it still has MEDIA-IN (MDI) frozen on the screen 4 hours later.
Have you tried a hard reset yet? To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
