I am hoping to send a copy of a photo slideshow created in iPhoto (9.4.2) to family in Europe.
What's the best procedure to make sure the DVD can play on a European TV screen?
Do I need to convert to PAL systen somehow?

That's something that you would do in the software you're using to author the DVD.
Use iDVD. Set it to PAL.
It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40. (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)
