Table within a Table Cell in Pages?

I'm working on a table-heavy lab report in Pages, with headings in a column along the left side of the page and the content in the adjacent right cells. However I want to insert another small table into one of the right cells and have been unable to get the results I want. Hopefully there's a Pages master who can lend a hand.
When I've selected the cell, the Add Objects button and Insert Table options are greyed out. If I create the small table outside of the large table and then try to paste it into the large table's cell, Pages takes the first cell of the small table and fills the large table's cell with that content.
So far my workaround has been to tell Pages to make the small table fixed on page and then drag it to the cell area and leave blank lines to accomodate it, but whenever I add a line to what I've written above I have to move the small table back down so it's in the right spot, and it's getting to be a pain.
Anyone know how I could remedy this?

well you cant add a table inside a cell but you can split a cell into two cells ( rows or columns) and if you do that a few times might give you the result you are looking for
