Have you done the basics of restart/reset? Also, could a large attachment be "hanging" on the device, either in the in or outbox?
We know it's not an Exchange account issue. We've used 2 other iPads and setup the user's account on each and they worked fine. We've deleted the account on the original iPad, reset the device, re-added the Exchange account and it still hangs on "Updating Mail". The funny thing is that it recognizes the account just fine and displays all of the user's Outlook folders.
I think I'd try a "reset all settings".(see effect ;:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3690389?start=0&tstart=0 )If that doesn't fix it after a backup I'd try a restore, first as new, being sure not to overwrite the previously backed up data, then if that works, I'd restore to original backup...that is pretty crazy that after deleting and re-adding the account and resetting, it still hangs...😕
Ok, you Gurus are going to love this one! My boss has the iPad 3, 64 GB. His Exchange stopped syncing on 20 November. Every attempt to get it to sync results in the account being recognized & added to the iPad, but it hangs on "Checking Mail". Here's what we've done to try to fix it:
I cannot figure out why his account works everywhere else but on his iPad, and why another Exchange account works fine on the same iPad. Does anyone have a clue?
there are ongoing issues with Exchange Server and iOS6
did it stop working after update to iOS6?
is the working iPad also on iOS6?
Yes, the iPad is updated to 6.0.1
OK, we fixed by boss' iPad issue. We are using Exchange 2010. Somehow, there was an issue with the device association in his Exchange account. We had to remove the device association from his Exchange account, delete the account from his iPad, then re-add the account.. He is now syncing again.
As to the cause of the issue, it is still unknown.
Mistic67 solution makes sense.
Frank if you have access to OWA (your Exchange) you can log in there and remove your iPad from the associates mobile devices. And try to add the Exchange again.
Thank you Mistic67 and tzbikowski,
i tried everything else, even set up the Ipad as new one - still not working.
Now i would like to try your last solution, but where and how exactly can i remove the device association ?
In Outlook OWA, in the top right corner you can choose options (all options). In the left pane of the options page, there will be an option for phones (devices). Select the device, then delete it. Delete the Exchange account from your iPad. Then re-add the account.
yes found that , my devices are there. But when mark the ipad and go on remove device nothing happens. Its still there
That's interesting. I was able to remove a test iPad using my regular user account. If OWA won't allow you to delete the device, you may have to ask you Exchange admin to do it for you.
Frank,
which Exchnage server is it? I just check the thread and I strangely have not asked the question yet.
If you can see the iPad on the mobile device you should be able to remove it If not you need to ask the Administrator of the server to help you. They can do it directly on the Exchange.
I do believe users can manage their own devices in Exchange 2007/2010. Exchange 2003 may require the Exchange Admin. In any case, the Exchange Admin can delete the device regardless of the version.
