sturdiness of macbook pro

I noticed that the closed lid of the macbook pro retina is not that sturdy and seems to flex when slightly pressed. Does this mean that one should not place it in bags (propriety bags with dedicated compartment for the device) together with a few books, etc.?

One might easily position the bag (without noticing) in such a way that the books' weight is placed on the computer itself. Could such a scenario damage the lid/ screen?

The Retina, in its zeal to become a fashionista statement of cool and thinness, is inherently more fragile than the regular MBPs just by virtue of there not being enough metal to prevent flexing as you have noticed. And all these Macs are susceptible to point damage on the lid itself: like when a hard object with a point (book corner, edge of a camera, etc.) impacts near the center of the lid. Hence the imperative need for a case with a dedicated compartment and/or a sleeve.
