Deleting Email messages

If I want to delete an email in Mac Mail "in" box WITHOUT OPENING THE MESSAG , I can highlght it in preview secition, right click the mouse and choose delete. It then goes to trash. Trying to do the same thing in trash, the message is always opened when I right click the mouse. I want to delete the message from "in" and "trash" without ever opening it. Can it happen?
