phone replacement, can i keep my broken one

My current iphone which is still under warranty will not switch on full stop and im 100% sure apple will offer a replacement, however it practically has my life on it and as it wont switch on i have no way to restore it to factory settings and wipe everything, will i be able to keep it as ive heard horror stories of refurbished phones still having personal data on them when re-sold
