No volume....
The volume on my IPOD Classic stopped working, unless I have it synced with my Ford.....I tried to restore, but am getting error message--not even sure if that would resolve the issue....any suggestions?

What's the error message?
not even sure if that would resolve the issue.
There is a small chance it might, but it sounds like the headphone jack may be faulty, which is why output only works when sent out the dock connector rather than the headphone jack.

Thanks, but it doesn't work when docked to a different component; only the Ford......
Didn't know that as it wasn't clear from your post above.
Either way, very strange. What's the error message when you try to restore it?

The message reads "The iPod.....could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1413)" I tried different ports, I've rebooted and I did manual reset byb holding the menu and center button. Other than this issue, it works fine, I can add music, etc., and play it via my Ford Sync. go figure.....I think it has something to do with that, ever since I started syncing with Ford....no volume on any other device.
I assume you have tried everything here?
The restore error could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

It appears that the sync with your Ford may be the cause of the volume issue, but I"m not sure how or why. Have you contacted Ford to see if they could provide any more information?

Thanks, yes...I have tried everyting in your first link and am currently following the instructions in turingtest2's post. I have thought of contacting Ford and will probably do......I did notice on one of the harddrive tests that there was a headphone/headset option and I selected that and it said 0 headsets detected???? maybe it is as simple as the jack being damaged, but then can't figure out why won't work with my docking station/speaker system? Thanks so much! you have been quite helpful.....p.s. I have just purchased a iPod touch 32 gig for myself from BB,,,$229....what a deal!
I'm not 100% sure either. :S
So it's hard to tell whether it's software or hardware related...
