I downloaded the Kindle app and the Amazon store app. When I go to purchase a kindle book, it says "this mobile application does not currently support digital downloads." Do I need a different app or are you not able to get kindle books on the Ipad?

I'm not clear as to why you are getting that error, but you certainly can download to the Kindle app. Have you set up the device on your amazon account?

I think Apple restricted the app from downloading books directly to the app... they were losing their 30% share.
You have to download them to your computer and then sync them. Not sure of the details though.
You can download directly, but must purchase from the web site (outside of the app).
You should be able to purchase kindle books via the Amazon website on Safari. As long as the Kindle app is linked to your Amazon account you should then be able to go into the Kindle app, click on the Cloud tab on it, and then download your kindle ebooks directly in the app
