siri will not text

anyone else having this problem:

Siri will not send text messages to certain contacts. Siri wants to send emails instead.

When given the instruction, Siri prompts "Which email address for xxx?"

It seems like this happens with my most frequenty used contacts (wife, best friend, etc) but Siri WILL text lesser used contacts.

BTW, Siri does recognize WHO my spouse is and will call her.

Happens whether I say "wife" or "Renee".

Her cell # is in her contact twice, once as "iPhone" and once as "mobile"

I should also mention that she has an iPhone 4 with iMessage enabled.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1

Are you able to send texts to those contacts manually?

Make sure you have a 10 digit phone number saved to the contact for your wife.

If that doesn't do it, you could try creating a new contact for your wife.
