Nov 27, 2012 4:11 PM in response to Swaminby TinyAppleBear,Do you have the lightening connector or the 30-pin connector. The 'New iPad' is actually thr iPad 3rd generation. Did you buy it from an apple store or a reseller?

Nov 27, 2012 4:31 PM in response to Swaminby Joseph Kriz,Look on the back of you iPad for the model number and check it on this list.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5452
Sounds like you have the 3rd generation and not the newest 4th generation.

Nov 27, 2012 11:19 PM in response to Swaminby Swamin,It looks very weird that a company like Apple which boasts that their products are on top of the world… do not have even a document along with their product to prove its configuration.

Nov 28, 2012 11:10 AM in response to Swaminby TinyAppleBear,You can always go in to Settings > General > About and see virtually anything you'd want to know about your version of the iPad. Apple is a very green company and their goal is to use as little paper as possible. They offer many many ways to check what version you might have; Joseph provided a very good link to one. If you'd like to read more about why apple doesn't include a manual or anything of that nature with your device you can always read about it here: http://www.apple.com/environment/

Nov 28, 2012 8:38 PM in response to TinyAppleBearby Swamin,I really thank you and joseph for the details provided. But the product and Apple still lagging on the details they provided to the customer who pay very high price for apple products just because it is from Apple.
I agree that printing on papers save the environment and it is a must for the world today.
But it should not be at the cost of hiding information to the customer which they are bound to know.
if they would like to really save the paper, then they must give the options in the ipad itself to clearly show it all in black and white about the product we purchase. As you mentioned, settings>general>about doesnt show what is the processor (a6x or a5x) the Ipad, I bought is fitted with. correct me if i am wrong... and help me to get the information from the ipad. Joseph's information is also doesn't really help as the ipad, i bought no where mentioned any of the model numbers mentioned in that link. so in the end it makes me to think Apple is taking customer's for a raid by not providing the details we required to know.
This may be acceptable for products we buy from low cost producers and not from the so called leader 'Apple'. I am very disappointed.

Nov 28, 2012 8:44 PM in response to Swaminby John Galt,This is very simple Swamin: Identifying iPad models
Connect it to a Mac running iTunes and the model number will be right there.
Everything I have ever purchased from Apple has come with a comprehensive description of exactly what it is. I am always asked if it's OK to email it to me. If not they will gladly print one in the store.
If you order online it is emailed to you as well.

Nov 28, 2012 9:03 PM in response to John Galtby Swamin,Hi John,
Thanks for your quick reply. But in any case IPAD doesnt show all the details about the configuration it is fitted with.
a simple information - whether it uses a6x or a5x processor. - is there a command or a click... will I be able to know?
Is it not the info which an enduser like me should be allowed to view?? what is there to hide it from the purchaser?
referring a web pages are very generic. how will I be able to know from my IPAD?
whereas this is pretty straight forward in other OSs like windows/unix etc., there are diagnostic tools available to make clear.

Nov 28, 2012 9:07 PM in response to Diavonexby Swamin,Hi, thanks for your reply. however, it costs me. doesnt come free. What i insist is that it should be something which the customer bound to know by default from Apple.... along with the product they purchase.

Nov 29, 2012 8:43 AM in response to Swaminby Joseph Kriz,Sounds like you might have been mislead by the Salesperson?
Where did you buy this?
An Apple Store?
or some other retailer?

Nov 29, 2012 9:16 AM in response to Joseph Krizby TinyAppleBear,I agree it does indeed sound like you might have been misled. Apple products come in an official sealed box (even the refurbished ones) and have all the details you need to know about the product. Further you have 90 days from the date of purchase of your product (in the case of a new product OR a refurbished product from apple) in which you can call Apple and they can give you and free information, troubleshooting, etc about your product. Because of the release date of the iPad with Retina Dsiplay (4th gen) there is absolutely no way that you could have it and NOT be within your 90 days of support. There should be no cost at all.
The model number is very specific to your model. On the webpage it will tell you everything you need to know. IF you're saying that it upsets you that there is no way to view it on the device then let me say this; how would you even know what the 'page' that information is saying to you is true? The only way to REALLY be sure would be to take the device apart, find the processor chip, and see if A6X was imprinted on it. That however would likely destroy your iPad and most certianly void the warrenty. At some point you'll just have to trust that what other people are telling you about your product. The easiest way would be to let us know what the connector point to charge the iPad looks like only the 4th generation uses the lightening connector where as all others use the 30-pin connector.

Nov 29, 2012 9:19 AM in response to Swaminby Laxman25,Apples fault because you didnt know what your buying? Check the back of the box(barcode), check about(like above), check the connector(easiest way). Apple isnt going to slide in an a5x on a 4th gen Ipad to screw people. If the model number(barcode and back) is a 4th gen, ITS A 4TH GEN! Unless your still not covinced....crack it open on a rock jeeze
-
Nov 29, 2012 7:42 PM in response to Laxman25by Swamin,Yes correct. since the product is from apple.. people say that we must trust. if it is from china/india or any other 3rd world country, then the same people will ask... how can we trust.. customer must know what is there in the product and it is their right etc., world is like that tilted towards west. no one can change it.!! To check whether ipad comes with a6x or a5x processor, if i have to break or crack the product? then it is pathetic !!

Nov 29, 2012 7:50 PM in response to Swaminby Taxes,Since the A6x processor is only on the iPad 4 and the iPad 4 uses the tiny new Lightning connector to charge it, as opposed to the iPad 3 with the A5x that uses the much larger 30 pin connector, all you have to do is look at the dock connector port on your iPad.
As for telling the difference between a Retina iPad and a non-retina iPad just hold it portrait orientation and browse some sites. If you can easily read the smallest text then you have a Retina iPad.
