Nov 27, 2012 5:13 PM in response to leslietcbjby BDAqua,★HelpfulYou may be out of luck, we're dependant on Apple for Java, & there are no more Java updates for 10.5.8
Locate the version of Java that’s installed on your Mac OS X system.
1. Open the Utilities folder and run the Terminal application.
2. Type java -version and press Enter.
(space between java & -v important)
The version of Java that you have installed will then be displayed on the screen.

I am having a hard time opening it. I do see java preferences in the folder? There are three versions checked. Is this what I need?
Thank you for responding.

Nov 27, 2012 10:01 PM in response to BDAquaby leslietcbj,Thank you. I had checked this already on Safari. I had enabled java but it did not fix it. I enabled java on firefox because it had been blocked because of the Mac issue. It did not help. Java is enabled on my Google Chrome as well. THIS *****!!!! I own so many Apple products...iphones, ipad, macbook pro, macair....I ShOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM LIKE THIS!!! I need these coupons.
I am going to upgrade to Snow Leopard and then Lion after. Maybe after all of that I will be able to print my coupons.
Any recommendations for an external drive for back up?
THANK YOU!

Nov 27, 2012 10:42 PM in response to leslietcbjby BDAqua,Any recommendations for an external drive for back up?
Last thing I'd recommend is Time Machine, Time Capsule, or a NAS drive.
With your iMac, I'd get a good FW/800 drive, 1st or second column here...
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
Comes with Backup SW.
And I'd kick & scream to go past 10.6.8.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.
Buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Call Apple Sales...in the US: 1-800-MY-APPLE. Or Support... 1-800-275-2273
Other countries...

Nov 28, 2012 2:24 AM in response to leslietcbjby Klaus1,The last Java update for Leopard was:
Update 10, 29 June 2011 - This release updates J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_30, and updates Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26. J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update. Support for out-of-process Java applets on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been removed with this update.
This release is only for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later versions of Mac OS X 10.5. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1359
and for Snow Leopard:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1360
Note: Java 1.6 for Leopard is 64 bit only, but for Snow Leopard it is available for both 32 and 64 bit.

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1637588.h tml
Further information here:
http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1735645
and their FAQ’s:

However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:
Interesting article here on why Apple removed Mac browsers’ ability to run Jave Applets:

Feb 23, 2013 7:23 AM in response to leslietcbjby rodrigo7x,HI,
You probably already bought the new Mac OS as you planned but in case you want to know how I fixed the issue you described in my mac 10.5.8 :
* I went to the applications -> java preferences set it to defaults then I moved the order of the Java versions so that Java SE 6 64 bit was on top. Then I was able to use Java on the browser. I believe you have to switch it back after you are done using it for security purposes.
I did have the same version output from terminal as you:
java -version
java version "1.5.0_30"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_30-b03-389-9M3425)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_30-161, mixed mode, sharing)
but then after applying the change I described:
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03-384-9M3425)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02-384, mixed mode)
This is what you should have to be able to do the coupon thing.
Hope this helps!
