Performa 6400 to iMac G5?

I just came back to Mac after 10 years away in PC land. I have an old Performa 6400 w/system 7.5 software & old Clarisworks docs saved to floppy disks. Any ideas on how to access them w/my new iMac G5 w/OS X v10.4? The Performa is so beat up, it doesn't connect online any longer.

Welcome to discussions.
Some questions:
1)Do you have Ethernet on Performa?
2)Do you have USB on G5?
To read the old Clarisworks files(which CW?) you will need at least CW 5.0 /AW 5.0 to convert them. You may look at the Appleworks forum(peggy ) for that.
To transport the files you will either need Ethernet connection or a USB-Floppy on G5.
For Ethernet connection/Filesharing you may look here:

You can connect from Performa to G5.
Post back if you need more info

jdasbarrios,

You may want to take a totally different approach. The hard drive in the 6400 has an IDE drive in it. Buying an external Firewire/USB2 drive enclosure instead of a USB floppy drive might give you something you would use more and use longer. If so, post a new topic and ask who can recommend an enclosure that works well with old and new drives.

Second, you will want to verify that the floppies are still readable. Bringing data directly from the hard drive will avoid issues with old floppies that may or may not have problems.

Third, if you save the files as RTF, they will be far more transportable. My recollection seems to say that even Clarisworks 5 would not read Clarisworks 4 files on the same hard drive so I used 'save as RTF' just to update files on the same computer.

Restoring an internet connection on the 6400 might not be as bad as you think. Remember, it is still a Mac. : )
