Can I install os 9 on a MacBook Pro

Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro and here are the specs:

Born Feb 25th 2011

USED UNIBODY MACBOOK PRO I7/2.7 GHZ

4 GB of RAM

500 GB internal drive

Internal SuperDrive

Airport Extreme and Bluetooth installed

Intel HD Graphics 3000

13in. Glossy Display

OS 10.8.2 installed

My question is,

Can I partition my hard drive and install os 9.22 ?

I have a few old programs that I want to run.

Any info would be helpful,

Thank you in advance :-)

Well you have a problem, the processors that ran OS 9 were PowerPC and now all Mac's run Intel processors.

Even virtual machine software won't work.

Find a old PPC based Mac that's still running and has OS X 10.4 or earlier and use Classic Enviroment to run the OS 9 programs.

Another method seems to be with SheepShaver

Could I purchase an external hard drive and put os 9 on the external and then connect it to my MacBook Pro

And use it ?

No, OS 9 needs a PPC processor to run on, your machine has Intel processors.

Also the installer has to run from the disk to install onto a drive, how can you run the installer if it's not a PPC processor?

Check out the SheepShaver PPC emulator for Intel Mac's, I think that will work but it will take some doing.
