My iphone 4 can send imessages to itself, but when sent to others, it isn't delivered. Also, other iphone users can't send me imessages. How can I fix it?

I have tried turning imessage on and off, logging out of my apple ID, and only have my number connected to imessage. The only thing I can do is click the failed message and send as an sms. Also, can't facetime anyone.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

It sounds as if Facetime and iMessage are not activated. Check this support document for assistance in activating Facetime and iMessage. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268. Also, you need to have a data plan, signal and connection to the Internet for iMessage to work. See these support documents for troubleshooting iMessage and Facetime usage. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3367
