My last 17" MacBook Pro?

Just like in this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4020137), I cannot believe that Apple has abandoned the 17" market. As a web designer and photographer, I absolutely need (and LOVE) the extra room and impact the 17" display makes. I don't care that a 15" Retina display has the same pixel resolution... they still appear smaller on a 15" screen than they do on a 17" screen. Sorry guys, but size DOES matter!!!

Please Apple... reconsider the current product lineup and bring back the 17" model! Without it, I fear that I am at the end of my MacBook Pro lifeline... and will have to consider switching back to a Windoze computer so I can get the size I need.

- Extremely Disappointed MBP Owner

P.S... I'm secretly hoping that the only reason there isn't a 17" model available right now is because they haven't come up with a 17" Retina display... and that, with time, one will be released!!!

Well, I used to believe liek you, then I re-played the iPad Mini launch video. real near the end, they actually state "... We have refreshed our entire line-up of notebooks ...". This tells me that they are not planning to do any more 17" MacBook Pro's. I started with a late 2007 17" MBP, and I am currently using a late 2011 17" MBP (both with the 1920x1200 displays). If I could keep the sme resolution on a smaller screen, and still be able to see everything, I might consider it, but with age, my eyesight isn't getting better, so going to a smaller screen isn't likely in the near future...

"I FEEL YOUR PAIN" to quote a recent President of the USA. I waited in the vain with the hope that Apple would add a 17" MBP to their current line. With patience exhausted I ordered as late 2011 refurbished unit and have had it for a couple of weeks.

The only practical advantage that the new MBPs have are the USB 3 ports. This to a degree is mitigated by utilizing an eSata expresscard.

What I found interesting are the OWC bench tests indicate superior performance of the late 2011 MBP compared to the current 2012 MBPs. This is in spite of the faster CPUs and higher frequency RAM for the current crop. Counterintuitive to be sure and it would be interesting to know why.

I suppose the crux of the matter is that the 17" MBP aficionados get the refurbished units while they are still available. But then perhaps the gods in Cupertino will take pity on us and reintroduce a 17" MBP in the future.

Ciao.

😟 Bummer... but I'm not going to let me lose hope! LOL!

Yeah... I'm getting ready to add a Samsung SSD to my MBP to speed things up and make me feel less depressed that there's no 17" model to upgrade to. Who knows... after the upgrade, I may be GLAD I don't have to spend money on a new laptop! 😉

Ultimately, people voted with their wallets. I'm a big fan of the 17" machines, and have had one ever since the PowerBook G4. But evidently, from what I heard, only around 2% of Apple's laptop sales were 17" models, so I can't really blame them for discontinuing those models.

In the future, I believe that folks that really need that extra screen space will spend less buying a smaller machine and then add a bigger secondary external monitor. Not much extra cash for even more screen real estate.

for the record...

Apple's decision to drop 17" MacBook Pros ranks up there among it's other idiotic decisions throughout its entire history.

in doing so, it has effectively removed the most valuable tool for creative people on the go who need more than 15" of screen real estate.

i'm certain that other laptop manufacturers don't sell as many 17" versions than they do 15" either, but they're still making them
because they understand that creative professionals NEED 17" laptops for their work! how has it come to pass that Apple no longer gets this?

personally, i purchase a new 17" MacBook Pro every ~2.5 years, and sell my old one just prior to my Apple care running out from my last one.

so, what are "the rest of us" supposed to do now... buy a Winblows 17" laptop?

and why don't people seem to understand that the 15" retina display is NOT a substitute for the additional screen real estate of the 17"?

looks like i might have to just keep my 17" and fix it whenever it breaks down in the future rather than purchasing another new one from Apple.

way to go Apple leadership
 NOT!
