Ipod 5 does not show content

I synchronized my new ipod on itunes, but itunes did not display the contents of my device on the side panel. Every time I connected the devise to itunes again, it recognized the name I had given my new ipod, but it still did not display contents (music, movies, tv shows etc) on the side panel. And on the main itunes window, I was at the same time being asked to 'set up my new ipod', 'sync' and start all over. Without the contents being shown on the side panel, I cannot mannually drag and drop music from itnues to my opd either. Can someone please help me?
