All my system icons dissapeared (finder, menu bar, preferences)

All my system icons dissapeared from at least:

- menu bar

- finder

- preferences

Icons from other software still are visible.

The "Space" for the icons is still reserved and clickable.

All other User Accounts are still working as intended.

I think it occures since today.

Did not made any changes, but if I remember right there was a small OSX Update yesterday,

that I executed today or yesterday night.

But I dont remember the content.

I tried to:

- restart

- log out

- started with cmd + r and used disk utilities to repair the disk (no problems)

- used onyx to repair preferences, user rights, plist

- manually deleted plist for finder, dock, systemui

- killall for dock, finder, systemui

Any help is appreciated.

At first the spotlight service just worked right (it tried to initialize new after repair tries),

but now spotlight icon is completely dissapeared and the cmd + space does nothing.

There is another thread along simlar lines. here

It appears to be a bug which came with 10.8.2 graphic update.

Certain macs upon awakening from hibernation mode fail to disaply icons (system wide) specifically the menu bar, but in my experience all over the finder screens in all apps.

re-starting in safe mode (reboot holding down shift) does resolve this, but is not an option for those who enabled filevault.

I think i've sorted it, worked for me anyway.

went to sys prefs - Users & Groups - unlocked the padlock and clicked on my account.

hit the login items tab whch had a load of old log in things I no longer needed.

I deleted them and left Dropbox, ituneshelper (???) and Suitcase which I use for my fonts.

restared and all back to normal for now
