For some reason, TV shows that I have purchased recently will now no longer play due to apparent "HDCP" problems on my macbook pro, help! This hasn't been an issue before and I haven't changed any settings at all.

The TV Show you have purchased is most likley in 1080p and requires HDCP.
iTunes Store says it clearly:
Note: If you are trying to view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and also support HDCP
Yes but I am not trying to watch it on anything other then my Macbook and it's a tv episode of a series I have been watching for ages - all of which are HD. Only today has it become a problem.

You may need to check to be shure your time & date are correct. It worked for me.

I had the very same problem plus my macbook pro shut down on me when I was running some heavy graphics. I checked for an app update and turns out that Apple had a OS update for the display shut down and it seems to have fixed my HDCP error as well
i know i updated my macbook but the same propleam keeps happing its really frustraiting i wanna watch my shows currntley im talking to apple i hope there is a way to fix it i tried everyting trust me everyting nothing would work
