Hi to all. My question is: I'm just about ready to buy a Mac Pro, can I get away with using my old monitor from my G5 PPC, 7 yrs old? I didn't think so, but was told by an Apple retailer there should not be a problem.. Me, skeptical!

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Great!  So the end with the 24 holes fits the existing cable from my old monitor, and the other end of the adapter fits into the new Mac Pro? Sorry to be pedantic, I've had too many headaches in the past to be leave anything to chance with computers.. But that's great, it will save me £800+ just now, maybe get the monitor once Mac Pro starts paying for itself.

Thank for your help! : )

You have to use a DVI-to-Mini DisplayPort adaptor to use the display > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter?fnode =53
