Often, while using a mouse on my MacBook Air, the cursor will jump to a strange location, thus I am typing in an inappropriate place causing confusion as to where I am in an email, document, or other application. Is there a way to stop this from happening? It is very annoying. I think it's caused by a Trackpad issue.

Really?!? Then there is no way to correct this issue?
Please fix this. My old dell POS did this years ago (disable the trackpad while typing irrespective of whether a mouse is connected or not). It is a severe limitation to editing/word processing on this device.

OS X EL Capitan
Go to system preferences> Accessibility
Check "Ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present"
