Problem after Updating to Snow L eopard

I have a older Macbook Pro and have resisted updating to Snow Leopard, but because of my iPhone and having to run a newer iTunes I was forced to update to Snow Leopard. Now I have this wierd problem that a program takes over my computer. It will not let me quit the program, nor will it allow me to save. I can't go to the finder. Forced Quit does not work. My only choice is to restart my machine. It is very frustrating. Any ideas as to what is causing this situation?
