Jul 17, 2013 8:11 AM in response to Csound1by helen_vr,My 'issue' is that Apple didn't make the change known, told me in-store that my new MBP would 'do everything that the last one did', and are still giving THIS advice ( last updated in March 2013 ) on their support pages:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3625
With no disclaimer that it won't work on newer MBPs.
That's my issue. And you being rude to those of us who didn't peruse the entire manual before buying, even assuming that the manual is accurate... someone here has already provided a scan of misleading information from the packaging on theirs, but you choose to believe that they're posting a pic from another model.

Aug 17, 2013 5:50 AM in response to Csound1by DJ Warren Francis,Csound1 - I have confirmed this several times that it does have a dual port for input/output. Im sick to death of ****** like you who speak to others like if your'e gods gift. Your information is false.... shut up!
Im having this issue too - I have been told only the non-retina models have this issue. I use this laptop do do my DJing sets live via other software such as Mixlr or recording via audacity. My other DJ friend can confirm this as he has the latest model (2013) as I only have the Mid 2012 model.
I have to hook up more than 1 USB when DJing this means I have to buy a pricey USB Hub and a USB Sound card to connect to my mixer so I can get an input to the mac.As for this issue people I just bought my mac recently and Im unable to contact apple about this issue as of yet.

Oct 15, 2013 8:22 PM in response to DJ Warren Francisby Cartoonipad,Question for those who purchased an external USB Sound card:
Have you been able to get 2 channel (STEREO) input? I plugged in my...
"Virtual 7.1 Channel Audio Sound External USB 2.0 Card"
http://www.gindart.com/buy/virtual-71-channel-audio-sound-external-usb-20-card-p -1739.html
...which works fine in my WindowsXP laptop (2 channel stereo) - BUT - only gives me the option for 1 channel MONO input (using Audacity in both machines). So basically the question is:
Is it possible to import 2 channel STEREO (line in) with a MacbookPro Retina 2012 MountainLion 10.8.5?
If not, then my message to Apple is: What the *bleep??

Oct 15, 2013 8:37 PM in response to Cartoonipadby Frank Caggiano, have you looked in System Preferences->Sound, what does the device show as? Also look in Audio Midi Setup make sure the device is set to two channel.
In Audacity what are these windows showing?
Also do you have the latest version of Audacity?
You may want to start a new topic as this thread is old and not really related to your problem.
regards

Oct 16, 2013 12:29 PM in response to Frank Caggianoby Cartoonipad,Thx for the reply. Yes I have the latest Audacity (2.0.4). Audio Midi Setup input shows "USB headphone set" (but only 1 channel, no option to change). Two finger click or gear shows "configure device" ghosted:

System / Sound shows the following:

...and Audacity shows the same (1 channel only) option in preferences and interface:
As mentioned before, this device works fine on the PC. Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is either a bug or Apple intensionally removed, not only the line-in option, but the ability for USB devices to capture 2 channel stereo. So much for progress. I guess it would make sense if they're trying to sell a proprietary device (iMic?).
I'd like to know if any such devices work, which brings me back to my question:
Is it possible to import 2 channel STEREO (line in) with a MacbookPro Retina 2012 MountainLion 10.8.5? (with or without a USB device)
Has anyone here been able to do so?

Oct 16, 2013 1:59 PM in response to Cartoonipadby Frank Caggiano,Don;t know why that is showing up as a headphone set, are there any settings or switches on it?
I can assure you that stereo input via USB is alive and well. Have a look at this iMic - Griffin Technology lots of users using it.
regards
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano perhaps the fact that the device you have is billing itself as 7.1 has something to do with it. Is it really suppose to do 7 channel audio?

Dec 16, 2013 10:20 AM in response to DJ Warren Francisby DjBeNice, has this issue been addressed yet? Looks like the new macbook pro retina I was sold is less of a DJ tool and more an expensive doorstop at the moment

Dec 16, 2013 11:20 AM in response to DjBeNiceby Cartoonipad,I got the iMic (mentioned above) and it works great. I used it to capture audio into Audacity. Noticed that it also has a switch to output, but haven't tried that yet.
