Mail problem with a spammer

This is Apple's website. We do not handle such problems nor does Apple. Take it up with your email provider or install software to block spam or use Mail's own junk mail filter.

I would be surprised if there was anybody using this forum that does not receive spam from a Yahoo address. I personally get at least one every single day. Using Yahoo for spam is very easy to do and they are trying to figure out how to be relavant in this day and age so they can start making money again. They don't seem to have the time or the money to spend chasing down spammers.

Bouncing spam only lets the spammer know that he has a good e-mail address for you, which means he'll continue to use it and probably sell it to other spammers. Now that you can't do that any more, maybe your spam will start to decrease soon.

If you want to help send them to Spamcop and the FTC <spam@uce.gov>.

I googled a program called gfslogger, which ClamXav uses, whic I understand coould be read as a key logger program.

I'm not aware of any such use and the only speculation I could find was from people that obviously didn't know what they were talking about. It's distributed by Fink here. It's a clone of "fslogger" which does the same thing for Spotlight. ClamXavSentry currently uses it to detect new files written to the hard drive so they can be immediately scanned. The developer is currently re-coding Sentry to use a different method of detection which should improve performance and correct a couple of issues some users have reported, so you probably won't see it much longer.

Lots has changed over the years. Spammers are no longer motivated by the challenge, it has become big money now. There are now entire organizations dedicated to making it their business. The two major sources of Spam are from bots installed through back-door Trojans and by people recruited by Spam to "work out of your own home". The guy in charge provides either the bot or the human with ads, address lists and the software needed to send out mass mailings while concealing the true source. The human's get a cut of the advertising profits based on how many responce they get, but the bots don't even get that.

Did send some to spam cop as you mentioned but nothing back yet!

I've been using them for years and have gotten a handful of thank-you notes from ISP's who told me they took care of the spammer, but I'm sure that was only a minor irritant to them to have to register a new account. I was watching and in the scan, did see a key logger was installed but then gave me a out of this world price for doing my other

I'm going to preface my reply with a request that you please take is as construtive assistance.

In my informed opinion, although you likely did not have a keylogger on your Mac to begin with (everyone deals with lots of spam but it in no way indicates infection), I'm fairly positive that you have now been the victim of a fake tech support scam. Unfortunately, I believe that the folks that you allowed to work on your computer remotely were fake, and you now have allowed them to install back doors on both your Mac and your Windows VM! Your Mac and it's Windows VM are likely now remotely controlled "bots" that are not only stealing information from your actions, but are also used in the coordinated dirty deeds of organized crime rings.

Truthfilly, you realy need to take your Mac to a qualified local repair professional and pay for their services to remove the malware from the Mac. And, the best bet for your Windows VM is to backup any files from it and then rebuild a new one instead of trying to disinfect it.
