Mail problem with a spammer

I need HELP stopp"n a spammer sending fron Yahoo aka Yay-hoo.

I have been getting a spammer from yahoo.com on and off for a few months sending me email.

I used to bounce it but with a update to 10.7.5 this is no longer an option!

WHy I do not know, still getting used to 10.7.5 and some other programs moved from another Mac.

I have used ClamXav also Sophos Anti-Virus (free).

I got nothing to indicate any key logger or other such program, so I thought why not get hold

of Yahoo support and find a solution to this spammer !

Well Yahoo sends anyone looking for support to a website run by someone else.

I went from Yahoo.com to PCexpertsolution.com to TeamViewer.com and had a program installed in

the Parallels-Windows 7 as well as the Mac app folder to find the problem.

I was told I had been hacked and the key logger was sending out information to somewhere!

Any way their tech'r talked me into getting into my Mac Pro and doing a scan using the console program.

I was watching and in the scan, did see a key logger was installed but then gave me a out of this world price for doing my other

computer with the Mac Pro to clean them of this key logger. ( can't find a copy of any log to review what was done)

Since I have used Apple computers and a few others since 1984, this sounds a might bit iffy or bogus to put a point on it!

Then I googled a program called gfslogger, which ClamXav uses, whic I understand coould be read as a key logger program.

I also run Parallels 8 for Windows 7 w/Norton Internet Security, but also have a Asus laptop with Windows 7 w/Norton Internet Security

on it for work I do for our church.

In the other days, hehehe, we just fingered them and did them in..

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 3.2 ghz Quad core

I would be surprised if there was anybody using this forum that does not receive spam from a Yahoo address. I personally get at least one every single day. Using Yahoo for spam is very easy to do and they are trying to figure out how to be relavant in this day and age so they can start making money again. They don't seem to have the time or the money to spend chasing down spammers.

Bouncing spam only lets the spammer know that he has a good e-mail address for you, which means he'll continue to use it and probably sell it to other spammers. Now that you can't do that any more, maybe your spam will start to decrease soon.

If you want to help send them to Spamcop and the FTC <spam@uce.gov>.

I'm not aware of any such use and the only speculation I could find was from people that obviously didn't know what they were talking about. It's distributed by Fink here. It's a clone of "fslogger" which does the same thing for Spotlight. ClamXavSentry currently uses it to detect new files written to the hard drive so they can be immediately scanned. The developer is currently re-coding Sentry to use a different method of detection which should improve performance and correct a couple of issues some users have reported, so you probably won't see it much longer.

I thank you for your PC mental block !

OH I'm sorry did I just dust you off !!

Most people are more humanly evolved than others.

There are times when someone is looking for another way to deal with those low lifes that swim the net. Because they have not life and were on the short end of the ladder from the begining. Blasting everyone with their spam or electronic vomit just to show how cool they are!!

If this affended you well I guess I have to say " Take it up with your email provider or install software to block spam or use Mail's own junk mail filter." !!

Thank you for you reply, been quite a few years since I have use other software to deal with spam on a Mac.

Used to be delete or bounce their emails and they would stop after 2 or 3 bounced back on them.

But as you mentioned they do not stop now a days, like a unruley child possed to end any control or effort to show them how life really is when they think they know it all or so they think.

Did send some to spam cop as you mentioned but nothing back yet!

Do get tired of mt'n the junk mail folder or marking the junk emails..

We have timewarner here so I feel like I need to google more than talk to so of their tech heads.

Althought there have been a few who want and can help with internet problem, not just blow you off ! !

Lots has changed over the years. Spammers are no longer motivated by the challenge, it has become big money now. There are now entire organizations dedicated to making it their business. The two major sources of Spam are from bots installed through back-door Trojans and by people recruited by Spam to "work out of your own home". The guy in charge provides either the bot or the human with ads, address lists and the software needed to send out mass mailings while concealing the true source. The human's get a cut of the advertising profits based on how many responce they get, but the bots don't even get that.

Did send some to spam cop as you mentioned but nothing back yet!

I've been using them for years and have gotten a handful of thank-you notes from ISP's who told me they took care of the spammer, but I'm sure that was only a minor irritant to them to have to register a new account. I probably helped in a very small way to bring a big guy or two to justice, but apparently that's become more difficult now as the FTC offered an award for anybody that could help them find telephone spammers: http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-ftc-robocalls-challenge-priz e-20121019,0,5995781.story.

I'm going to preface my reply with a request that you please take is as construtive assistance.

In my informed opinion, although you likely did not have a keylogger on your Mac to begin with (everyone deals with lots of spam but it in no way indicates infection), I'm fairly positive that you have now been the victim of a fake tech support scam. Unfortunately, I believe that the folks that you allowed to work on your computer remotely were fake, and you now have allowed them to install back doors on both your Mac and your Windows VM! Your Mac and it's Windows VM are likely now remotely controlled "bots" that are not only stealing information from your actions, but are also used in the coordinated dirty deeds of organized crime rings.

Truthfilly, you realy need to take your Mac to a qualified local repair professional and pay for their services to remove the malware from the Mac. And, the best bet for your Windows VM is to backup any files from it and then rebuild a new one instead of trying to disinfect it.

I do wish you good luck in getting things cleaned up.

Thanks for the information, will check out things and get looking around for malware or bugs..

So far no problems from anyone or email flaming me back for spam!

They people who were in my Mac/Parralles were from the company Yaho sent me to from their support menu.

So hopefully the are on the up and up! Hope Yahoo does use someone that can be trusted?

As I don't let people or companies I do not know into my machines.

I have a couple of friend who can help dig thru my machines as I'm retired don't have the cash to go full scale.
