cannot sign into Facetime on MBP

Hi there I have a new Macbook Pro Retina and I cant seem to sign into facetime using Mac OS X 10.7.5

when I put in my apple id and password it constantly says 'Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.

My wifi is fine as im posting this from it.

Any ideas to help me solve this problem?
