Interenet Connection problems

A friend is having problems connecting to her modem with internet connect on 10.4 mac - Sje went to a hotel for a couple of weeks and used their ethernet while there, came home and tried to connect to her modem but the message she gets is "Another program is overiting your settings." It connects then disconnects.

The Internal modem is configured but not connected. All the plugs are in and to her it looks like it is all there. She has an Apple Internal Modem Version 90.

What can she do to get back on the Internet she is extremely frustrated.

Mac OS X (10.4.10)

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.

Then move these files to the Desktop for now...

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist

Reboot & test.

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
