A friend just got a new 13" MB Pro. Migration asst does not recognize other computer through FW as target disk or through network. Can't do a migration. Target disk mounts normally on desktop when not trying to migrate and no recognition even if computer in target disk mode is mounted and functioning properly prior to launching migration asst. anyone know what's wrong?

Yes. The old computer mounts on the desktop of the new and I can copy files from it. However, the migration app doesn't see it. I'm using a FireWire cable that connects 400FW to 800FW.
When you say:
"the migration app doesn't see it."
I do not understand. Are you using Target disk mode or Migration Assistant? The directions I showed you are for Target Disk Mode.
Please review the support article again.
If you see the HDD icon of your old MBP, click on it and you should get a window showing the files that reside on that MBP. You should be able to drag and drop them to the new MBP into the appropriate files.
