help!!!

I have just purchased an ipod from replay video games. when I got home I let it charge then turned it on. The first thing I noticed was the apple turned into a skull, then there was a pass code lock on it. I called replay the told me to try 0000 when i did a red message appeared "ipod disabled connect to itunes" when I did this. i tunes said I needed to enter the pass code first. so I tried to put the ipod in recovery mode, but itunes never gave me the message that there was an ipod in recovery mode. so I then put the ipod in DFU mode and still nothing at all. I just want to get this ipod back to original settings so that I can put my itunes and apps on it. if you can help I would be greatly appreciative.
