Nov 29, 2012 8:58 AM in response to whimsicalgamerby Stephen Spark,AirPlay from an iOS device will only play the sound on one set of speakers with the exception of some alarms, ringers and notifications. Using the free Apple Remote app and Home Sharing it is possible to play audio on multiple AirPlay speakers from iTunes on a computer.

Nov 29, 2012 9:02 AM in response to Stephen Sparkby whimsicalgamer,Ok, thanks. Is it possible to make the iTunes view the iPad as an AirPlay speaker?

Nov 29, 2012 9:19 AM in response to whimsicalgamerby Stephen Spark,No, it has been my experience most AirPlay speakers are higher quality and would end up drowning out the iPad's little speaker anyways.

Oct 12, 2013 8:25 PM in response to whimsicalgamerby tomasxvi,There is an app available that allows playing music on multiple Airplay speakers simultaneously. It's called the "Airplay Multiroom Player by WHAALE".
If you want to try how it is working (are the speakers in sych, how is the battery life of the iOS devices etc), there is also a free version of the app, which is called "Airplay Speaker Tester".

Jun 3, 2016 7:01 PM in response to whimsicalgamerby Solo Keita,This is now possible!
WHAALE is way outdated by now. I had asked a similar question here and I have found the best solution to be something called audio|acacia by a group called Plethra.
audio|acacia lets you play music from your iTunes / iPhone / iPad / iPod / Android Device / Internet Radio / etc. to any AirPlay device including your AirPort Express / Apple TV / iPhone / iPad / iPod / Computer / etc. Not only can you play to all of them, but you can play to all of them and have them be in sync with each other. You can also play one song to a group of speakers and a different song to another group of speakers at the same time. It's pretty awesome.
So that means you CAN play music from your iPad and you AirPort Express simultaneously.

Jun 3, 2016 8:26 PM in response to Solo Keitaby deggie,You have to purchase the server app and have a working network (and server) in order for this to work. The server software costs $125. But if you were going to use a Mac computer you could just play your music from it using Airplay to multiple computers.

Jun 14, 2016 7:47 PM in response to deggieby Solo Keita,Yes that is true. Any computer can run the server app, you don't need a designated server.
But iTunes on a computer and the Music App on the iPad don't allow you to play to both the iPad speakers and the AirPlay speakers at the same time. You can only play to one or the other. Whimsicalgamer wanted to know if it was possible to do both at the same time, and it is with this software.

Jun 14, 2016 8:15 PM in response to Solo Keitaby deggie,As long as you purchase the server software and run it on your computer. But again, why not save the money you would pay for the software and just play the music on the computer?

Jun 22, 2016 12:03 AM in response to deggieby Solo Keita,Well if you are going to say that then he might as well just listen to music from the iPad, or even just the AirPlay speakers. But that wasn't the question here, the question was "Is it possible to play music from the iPad speakers and a set of AirPlay speakers simultaneously?". Which without a third party software, the answer would be no. At the moment this is only possible with a third party software such as audio|acacia.
