    Hi,

So  in Messages itself you cannot add the GoogleTalk account to the list of Accounts in the Messages menu . Preferences > Accounts ?

IN System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars  it tells you there is a problem.

You have actually enabled your GoogleMail Account for the Talk option at your Google Settings ?

hi, right now.. whenever i try to enter mails contacts and calendar in system preference, it will crash and give me the spinning wheels..

i had tried using adium with my gtalk.. and it work perfectly..

  • Ralph Johns (UK) Level 9 Level 9 (69,555 points)

    Ok,

Lets try simple things first and move slowly up the list of things that we can try.

    Simplest.

Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and find the First Aid tab.

In here use the Repair Permission button.

    Next.

If that does not work  try a PRAM reset.

    Shut down the computer.

Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

  • Ralph Johns (UK) Level 9 Level 9 (69,555 points)

    Hi,

    No.

Unless you have a Time Machine Backup of when Messages was working I would not delete the app.

    Hi,

If you have another Mac User Account on this Mac (but not the Guest one) try Messages in that login.

Create one in System Preferences > USers and Groups if you don't have a "test" account.

If that does not work try booting in to Safe Mode

Whether this works or not you will have to reboot the computer to boot normally afterwards.

    HI,

This will mean that the items that store the settings for your normal account have some dodgy info in them.

These tend to be called .plists  and are found in ~/Library/Preferences (A short way to write Hard Drive/Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences)

However first of all check the Contacts list app itself (formerly the Address Book)

Does this have your details at the My Card (Head and Shoulders icon) ?

In System Preferences > iCloud can you access this pane (separate from the  Mail, Contacts and Calendars and the iCloud info in there) ?

If you can then delete the com.apple.ichat.plist and the com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist  from the Preferences

To do this use the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences

Find the two files and drag them to the Trash.

Restart Messages.  (And the iCal app if you use it.)

    hi,

i have delete the two plist..  restart the message.. but.. still cant tick the message option in gmail account in mail contact and calendar..

at message preferences > account > + button is also still not responding..

  • Ralph Johns (UK) Level 9 Level 9 (69,555 points)

    Ok,

Return the Preference Folder and delete the com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist (Messages still uses this .plist)

It is late where I am and it will be a while before I catch up with further posts.
