WiFi disconnecting with Nokia Lumia 920 internet sharing

Problem:

WiFi disconnects after tens of seconds (occasionally few minutes) of use when connected to the new Nokia Lumia 920. The Lumia has Internet sharing on so that I can access the Internet through the phone.

Hardware used with disconnects on all hardware after tens of seconds/few minutes:

My Nokia Lumia 920 (European, FI, build)

Friend's Nokia Lumia 920 (European FI build)

My MBP mid 2010 OSX 10.8.2

Friend's MBP mid 2010 OSX 10.8.2

Friend's iPad

Hardware used to try with no disconnects on all hardwares:

My Nokia Lumia 920 (European, FI, build)

Friend's Nokia Lumia 920 (European FI build)

Lenovo T500 winning Windows Vista

A 2011 Toshiba running Windows 7

Samsung Galaxy Tab running Android 2.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab running Android 4.1/4.2

Personal thoughts:

This is an Apple / MBP only problem. My logic board was just changed 2 months ago so even that is new.

What the heck am I supposed to do to solve this?!

Hi skragamasa,

I did not manage to make it work for longer than 1 minute on four diffrent Apple computers with any of the systems SL-L-ML

Lumia 920 on EE UK

No many settings available to adjust and do not need it badly so I left it for now.

Works well on my work Sony Z series laptop with Win7Pro.

Now after 4 discos the Internet sharing/WiFi has been on for 15 minutes. I have now succeeded twice at this: re-connect 4 or 5 times and the connection is more stabile.

This problem is extremely weird.

Same here, Internet sharing works only with my win7 laptop, but not on my 2007 MB, 2008 MBP 17, 2010 MBP 13...

I have the same issue, it is very frustrating. Similar to skragamasa after 4 or 5 failed connections I get a solid connection.

SOLVED! I think...

I think I might have figured it out, at least this is working for me...

Change the "Broadcast Name" and remove any spaces (the name contains spaces by default). Once I changed the broadcast name in Internet Sharing and tried a name without spaces (most wireless router names do not contain spaces) my Internet Sharing connection with my MacBook Pro is solid and does not disconnect!

The very first time I connected to the new Broadcast name it disconnected once or twice but now I have been connecting the past few days without issue for hours at a time.

Does it work for you? Try changing the Broadcast Name removing spaces and see if it works (note I did have an issue with the first connection to the new name).

I had the same issue, and worked around the problem by using Bluetooth internet sharing instead of WiFi. No more random disconnections now.
