Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

I just upgraded to iTunes 11 and noticed that iTunes DJ is missing from the Sidebar as well as from the dropdown menu. I used this feature often at my house for parties so iPhone users could have fun suggesting music.

What happened to this feature? Is it still there, but hidden?

As far as I can tell it's been integrated throughout and seems to be called Up Next now. Anywhere you see a track, if you over over it you will see an icon similar to (>) that you can click on and get a menu where ➕ Add to Up Next is an option. There also other areas where you will see ➕, such as in search results where that will Add to Up Next as well. In the player are up top to the right there is a bulleted list icon ( three stacked • –– ) that if you click on you see the Up Next list and can drag songs into order.

It's different. I wish Up Next appeared as a Playlist so that you could get all of the information that used to be avialable. For now I'll leave my opnion at that and see how using it feels after a week or so. I was a very heavy iTunes DJ user, and I think this will cover most bases. But there were times that now I see myself having to create a playlist where previously I would have used iTunes DJ.

My early reaction is that Up Next is a Step Back. You can't easily see a full list of what you have played and what is upcoming. You can see one or the other, and, in now-customary Apple fashion, the method is more pretty than practical.

It would seem that Apple still considers it desirable to competely quit iTunes and reopen it to change libraries.

It's a bit cleaner and easier to see, but not earthshaking.

It looks like you can no longer let people connect via the Remote app to vote for songs, request songs, etc.

The functionality is still in the Remote 3.0 app that was released today, if you connect to an iTunes 10 with iTunes DJ running, so it is still in the iOS app... but all that functionality seems to be missing from iTunes 11. The "Up Next" feature doesn't seem to do all that iTunes DJ did.

That *****.
