Q: Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

This all doesn’t solve the missing voting function with iTunes DJ and the remote app for iOS. Every remote has full control over skipping songs, changing the volume, changing the playlists, everything! I need this function for parties, voting was absolutely essential. I’ve tried four or five 3rd party apps, they’re all bullocks.

Yea, typical Apple to remove some features that worked well and that people really enjoyed!!

Leave it to Apple to make superficial changes while getting rid of features that are actually useful.

Everytime I see an update I hope Apple wisens up and brings back features, but enough is enough.

I just downgraded to itunes 10, you know back when we had Buffer Settings and DJ!

Possibly because as I've mentioned here and in another post - my iTunes play count (on my computer's iTunes) isn't up-dating since installing iTunes 11.

I have today downloaded itunes 11 & have spent a long time looking for the DJ facility (to no avail), so I found this discussion site, agree with all comments about how stupid it was to remove the DJ and gave Apple feedback. In the meantime have played around and found an alternative, create a smart playlist, tick all boxes (use the checked is true option, use whatever number of items you prefer) and you have your music playing randomly as before. OK its not the same but it works (until Apple surely reinstate the DJ facility)!!

DJ was the one of the best features on iTunes and the way it looks to me is that the entire playlist will play before any song repeats.  And no way to select "play higher rated more often".  I have 2K songs in one play list.  Would need to listen to it for several weeks to hear a song that I like again.  Please bring back DJ.

Because I was agreeing that I'd found iTunes DJ very useful to play a playlist that updated as songs were played. Now broken thanks to play counts not updating/iTunes DJ being gone.

Seemed at the time to have plenty to do with a thread including 'iTunes' and indeed 'DJ' in the title.

There are times when I want to play a playlist in order (not random). Then after the playlist finishes, I want iTunes to begin randomly playing a specified smart playlist without my intervention. iTunes DJ would do this quite easily.

I have not found a way to replicate this behavior with Up Next. Has anybody else found a workaround?

No, but like you said, it would be hella easy in iTunes DJ.

Just adding my voice to the many here. iTunes DJ was an enormous hit at parties, and never failed to blow away guests. I hope Apple responds to our collective outrage by bringing back what must surely be the most popular feature of iTunes. Please restore our ability to give guests permission to vote songs higher in the playlist -- without giving them complete control of iTunes (giving guests song skipping and particularly volume privilages can lead to BIG problems later in the night). You had somthing SO perfect, why would you remove it?!

No, Up Next does NOT have the same function as iTunes DJ. The most glaring omission is the ability for guests to use their iOS remote to vote for and request songs without givng them full control of the playlist. That was THE killer feature of iTunes DJ.

Hopefully, they will add that functionality to Up Next.
